Matt Coleman began the group with his cousin Larry Handy in April of 1997. Matt credits singer songwriter James Taylor and Jazz pioneer Louis Armstrong as his greatest influences. Aside from Totem Maples he has body of solo work all his own and has won awards for his guitar playing. A genuine working man's musician, Matt doesn't fail to have fun in what he does, and credits Winnie-the-Pooh as his favorite philosopher.
